Late 18th Century Female Portrait in Yellow Dress
Late 18th Century Female Portrait in Yellow Dress
28.75 x 34 inches (framed)
Oil on Canvas
Up for sale is a stunning 18th century antique oil painting portrait depicting a beautiful young woman in a yellow dress wearing a fur around her neck going down her shoulders. This portrait is executed in oil on canvas and is a marvelous piece with not only an excellent level of detail but a contrast in bright colors from the yellow dress to blue background to the pink rose in her right hand. The artists ability to paint such soft facial features and piercing eyes brings the painting to life adding extra aesthetic beauty. The painting is a good size with the canvas measuring 24.75 x 30 inches while the gold wood frame measures 28.75 x 34 inches.
Unfortunately their is no signature visible on this painting or marks of identification. The painting appears to have been painted during the 18th century and has been relined most likely in the late 19th or early 20th century. It has also been cleaned which help the bright colors to pop. The condition of the canvas is good but their is some separating in the blue seen in the background and heavy craquelure in the dress. Their is also some chipping in the corners which can be seen in the 9th photo provided.
The painting is considerably old which can be seen in the stretcher on the reverse as well as the woman's style of dress. Their is a small paper label that had some information on the backside seen in the 11th photo but has been partially lost and the price of "$2,000" is written in very old black ink along the top of the stretcher on the back. Their is also a possibly reference number written on the right stretcher "1651-149", seen in the right portion of the 11th image. This painting clearly was highly cherished at one point but the history has been lost to time. The painting is of very good quality and its visually striking.
