Up for sale is a stunning and rare Western landscape by the scarcely seen female painter Louise Koehl. Executed in the most attractive colorful saturated impressionist style in oil on masonite, this painting is large and impressive measuring 24 x 47.5 inches while its original wood frame measures 28.75 x 52.25 inches. Signed low right "Louse Koehl" the work is dated 1975 and is in its fine original condition. This example is by far the most impressive I have seen by the artist with other examples showing thinly applied paint, more of a quick study, than a completed work like this showing much heavier applications of paint, thoughtful composition and more overall detail. The colors are outstanding from the flora in the foreground to the mountains cast in stunning pink and purple as the sun sets behind the large rocky structures on the other side of the flte range. Another lovely aspect of this painting is the placement of the figures in the cetner, a horse drawn wagon leads the way while a figure on the back of a white horse follows. The condition of this oil painting is excellent showing minimal surface scuffs or marks consistent with age and wear to its attractive wood frame, overall lovely original condition.
