Up for sale is an exceptional late 19th century painting of the River Thames by the talented British painter William E. Harris. Signed low right and dated 1884, this work is executed in watercolor and gouache on paper mounted to its original board. This fine scene shows the Thames at sunset with a variety of ships on the slightly choppy waters. Titled verso “Thames River - A Race” this unframed painting measures 14.25 x 21.25 inches. The detail is tremendous and composition overall breathtaking showing what is likely London in the distance. The warm colors coat the scene with a peaceful emotion as the horizon starts to show a deep soft purple. The painting while in overall excellent condition does show matt burn from a previous framing and even toning.
