Signed low right and dated 1884, this work is executed in watercolor and gouache on paper mounted to its original board. This fine scene shows the Thames at sunset with a variety of ships on the slightly choppy waters. Titled verso “Thames River - A Race” this unframed painting measures 14.25 x 21.25 inches. The detail is tremendous and composition overall breathtaking showing what is likely London in the distance. The warm colors coat the scene with a peaceful emotion as the horizon starts to show a deep soft purple. The painting while in overall excellent condition does show matt burn from a previous framing and even toning.
