Up for sale is a beautiful and rare original watercolor by the French skier, mountaineer, and painter Henry Cuenot. Henry was a prominent member of the Club Alpin Francais and organized an international ski week from 1907 until the war. He died while hiking the Massif D’Allevard and his body was not discovered until the next day. This Swiss Mountain landscape is a beautiful image showing a home in the foreground with snow peaked mountains in the distant. A setting sun hits the mountain peaks pulling out some orange / yellow hues adding a nice touch and color. Green rolling hills dotted with trees are present and all this resting in what appears to be its original ornate original gesso wood frame. The painting has partial labels with hand writing and what was presumably the artists name and title of the work. There is also a paper label verso indicating this work was sold through the Parisian art dealer / gallery Havard Freres. The condition of the painting is good showing some discoloration and foxing but the frame shows significant loss to gesso and cracking. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
