Up for sale is a beautiful etching depicting the famous La Sacre Coeur by the 20th century French painter Bernard Buffet. Now an incredibly celebrated expressionist artist, Bernard Buffet was very much inspired by the architecture of this church which is seen replicated in many of his prints and cityscapes of Paris. This etching is a large example with the full sheet measuring 29 3/4 x 22 1/4 inches while the image measures 25 1/2 x 19 inches and is from the small edition of only 100. Numbered 48/100 as seen low left the work is boldly signed in pencil low right “Bernard Buffet”. Executed on BFK Rives paper the work was printed by Atelier Lacouriere in 1968 and shows the proper watermark as photographed. The overall condition of this impressive Buffet etching is quite good but may show minimal signs of handling in its margins, light matt burn and tape verso from a previous framing. The sheet overall is clean and the image is extremely crisp and dark.
